About Lands
Hunter Mahmoud Abal brings the absurdist world of Jaz Woodcock-Stewart's writing to life, while Michael remains stuck on his trampoline, Alec is glued to his jigsaw puzzle. Through collaboration and friendship, these two companions must work together to overcome their eccentric vices, but is this a puzzle that simply can't be fixed?
While Lands marked the second collaboration between Park Lytle and Hunter Mahmoud Abal, it was actually the actors Michael Lanham and Alec Anderson-Carrasco who first approached the two about a production. The show had previously had a run on the West End in 2018 but had yet to have a US production, seeing the opportunity to stage a US premiere, Hunter and Park jumped on the opportunity to collaborate with their two good friends.
The rehearsal process for Lands was one of experimentation. Having just graduated from CalArts, Park Lytle needed to push for creative and cost-effective solutions to find spaces, often rehearsing in living rooms, public park's, and experimental loft spaces in order to find a balance between artistic nurturing and affordability. These new and unorhtodix spaces however helped push the artists involved to focus on the text of their work, often reviewing the line by line to understand intent and meaning.
Lands performed for two weeks at the Broadwater Blackbox Theatre. It received a glowing review from Discover Hollywood Magazine and marked the first fully independent production from Shackleton Theatrics following Park Lytle's graduation from California Institute of the Arts. This production is heralded for the many learning experiences Park Lytle received that impacted the way future productions were organized and marketed.
